Periodontal Disease
Periodontics also called Gum Disease caused by bacterial growth in the oral cavity may result in loss of teeth or destruction of the gingiva or any other health problems.
What Causes Gum Disease?
It is caused due to deposition of plaque for several years left untreated results in the formation of tartar or calculus, hard substance sticks to the tooth surface.
Increased bacterial growth forms a thin layer on the surface of the tooth it forms pockets between the tooth and cervical part of the root.
There are more other factors causes periodontal disease-
- Hormonal changes like- puberty, menopause, menstruation, pregnancy, etc.
- Bad Habits like- No brushing, No flossing, Bad breath, smoking, etc.
- Major Diseases like- Cancer, HIV, Diabetes, Heart disease, etc.
Symptoms
- Inflammation or swollening in gums.
- Redness of gums.
- Periodontal Pockets between teeth.
- Increased length of the crown portion of a tooth.
- The dark color of calculus around the tooth.
- Pain in gums.
- Bad breath.
- a metallic taste in the oral cavity.
- Bleeding gums while brushing.
- Loose teeth.
- Pus filled cyst.
- Proper oral hygien
e- It is one of the most important to follow by everyone. Brushing with soft bristles with fluoride-containing toothpaste for two minutes twice a day and flossing once a day.
- Scaling or cleaning- A healthcare uses Hand tools or an ultrasonic device to carry out calculus around the tooth or gum line. Scaling is basically cleaning of the tooth with some tools. It should be done twice a year or it depends on how much plaque accumulates.
- Medication- Floss with an antimicrobial mouthwash such as- Cetylpyridinum chloride, Fluoride, Chlorhexidine, etc. Antibiotic gel for gums to control bacteria and shrink periodontal pockets.
